REFLECTIVE POWERS
Another Hoverfly. I found it interesting that it was drawn to the tiny, tight buds. Perhaps there were aphids there – evidently that is what they like. All other flies, bees, etc. were going for the nectar in the opened blossoms.
Also, the rounded upper portion of its body – the thorax - is quite shiny and reflective. With every shot the thorax reflected the bushes & trees around it. Here you see the sun over the house, with the trees rounding up the sides. The reflection changed with each different angle I had, so it definitely wasn’t the coloration of its body. These buds are barely bigger than a tiny bead, so you get an idea how small this hoverfly is.
