Let's knit
I got a decent amount of sleep last night so feeling almost human today. My blip yesterday was the hard side of parenting that's not all happiness. I don't want to paint a picture that every day is great i want to tell it how it is parenting 3 boys. So I apologize if I seemed a bit of a grinch.
Kanye went to school today, the dosage increase seems to have helped. He had a great day and the girl in his class who he has made friends with had a big smile when she saw Kanye. I bumped into his teachers yesterday and they said the wee girl has been asking for Kanye. This afternoon when he arrived home mum said they were holding hands in the taxi and he didn't want to get out! How cute is that?
We had parent teacher interviews tonight and so we all walked down to school. Freezing! But when we got there because we were early me and the boys ran around the courtyard to keep warm and secretly wear them out. Mars teacher is so lovely, she is really pleased with where he's at and how far he's come this year. She showed us his story writing for yesterday and he had written about Andres party and got a principals award for it!!! I had no idea, when I ask him about school he tells me mainly what lunch he ate and who he played with. As part of story writing too they have to brainstorm before hand and she said this week he did it all by himself, she said he's trying to spell out words he doesn't know and is getting the right sounding letters like cake he wrote Kake. His teacher also said he's doing really well at math, I loved maths it was one of the subjects i just got (apart from trigonometry) I had no idea he enjoyed it so much.
He's also moved up reading groups at school to dark blue once he masters this level the next one is green and is the final level he has to get to in year one so he's really meeting expectations of the curriculum. We are so very proud of him.
Today while out and getting some crafty things for the holidays i went past some knitting needles and wool. Learning to knit is on my list of things i want to do in life so i thought why not? I don't have time for things that need constant commitment like an exercise class so I thought well its something I can do at night and i can tick it off my list. Mum can knit and both my nanas could knit, my nana on dad's side crochets and used to spin their own wool too but I think she just crochets now I'm sure she's stopped knitting. What a cool way to honour my grandmother's though, knitting is in my dna surely somewhere.
So anyway mum showed me how to cast on and then how to knit. I have to say initially i was really frustrated. It looked like a bunch of knotted not knitted wool in the shape of a tiny flag. I tried again. You soon learn that A. It's really not easy to knit with kids around ( unless you're an expert) and B. It's a lot harder on your arms to breastfeed and knit. That time was a bit better but I lost it a bit trying to concentrate on the kids and it ended up looking like a little blanket for a worm. Third times a charm? Sort of. This is the result of knitting while kids are asleep. Once you start you get into the flow of it and I'm pretty pleased with what I've done today considering i learnt this afternoon. I have to say though cheap wool is useless the one I'm using seems to randomly split in half making it more difficult.
I will keep you all updated on my knitting journey if anyone needs little blankets for worms or even caterpillars do get your orders in haha.
