Cartagena

Overnight at sea, docked at Cartagena. Took a taxi tour of the city, much cheaper than the ships tours. Very informative driver, took great pride in his city. We stopped several times and he walked and talked us through all the places of interest. The gun and the watch tower are part of the Castillo de San Felipe, which was started in 1639 and took 150 years to be built. It is a huge fortress, and I would hazard a guess that it was impenetrable as the walls were at such a steep angle that they could not be scaled.

We went into the Ciudad Murallada (walled town) it was so clean and picturesque, the people obviously take great pride in their city. Went into the Hard Rock cafe for a free drink, found the shops and Roy bought me a lovely emerald ring (quite a surprise). The four guys in the photo let you have your picture taken if you gave them a couple of dollars. The dentist chair was one of several pieces made out of old iron dotted around the town square, and they represented daily life.

I think we all would have liked to have spent more time in the city, its a place I would go back to.
