at the prow of now
This ship sculpture beside the Town Hall in Port Glasgow is formed cutting through waves. Breaking into fresh waters. As are we day to day, moment by moment.
At this prow's edge is where we are in life. We are slicing continuously into existence. Imagine every generation upon generation upon generation as they stretch back into the millenia. Imagine all the meetings, couplings, tragedies, falling in love, accidents, loss, hardship, fellowship that had to happen for you to be here at this cutting edge of existence. It is a miracle of engineering. We are at the prow of a gene-ship, every ancestor is encoded and in-built within us. All these countless circumstances that got to you being here now. You are all your ancestors' eyes and ears, their envoy into life unfolding.
Lost in a thick fog of thoughts, emotions and material distractions we can fail to see this sea of timelessness we are cutting through. But if we can triangulate the stars we can navigate true. We can be, indeed we already are, the keen edge of life. Able to formulate and explore it. Here is where we always, endlessly, are. Here, like Kate Winslet on the Titanic, arms wide and awake. We are figureheads giving it big-arms, alive and able to take it in. Whisper thin, but sharp and glinting. So, don't get lost in the fog, that's just the weather. You are the wondrous vessel of everyone that has somehow gotten to you.
Hoist the mainsail !
Think of how many are already aboard!
Onwards !!
