So the Commonwealth Games come ever closer. Byres Road is now officially designated a mare to get up a car. Roads are being blocked off, cycling paths are being fenced off, warning signs and posters are all over telling us to check out which parts of the city are out of bounds.

Nice things are popping up too. This is Clyde the official mascot, designed by a Glasgow school child. A thistle and quite a simple but effective wee mascot. I'll be away for most of the Games but should see the last few days. It's good to hear the big athletes are making an appearance, although someone who works for Virgin told me that Usain Bolt will only run in the relay and is only participating at all because Virgin is sponsoring the games and he's contracted to them. Hmmm. Takes away a bit of the Corinthian spirit of it all.

I'm actually looking forward to a lot of the other events that are on surrounding the Games. I'm particularly keen to see Steve Earl at the Kelvingrove Bandstand. The city will be buzzing and it should be great just mingling and taking in the scene. Here's hoping.
