Fire Solves All Problems Perfectly pt 24

It’s harder to climb back the way you came; your arms and legs are shaking, and sweat is running into your eyes. As you inch along, hanging over the damp air where the river is falling, Jason is following you on the other side, dragging a stick through the links that goes thocka thocka thocka. Don’t fall, he says happily. It’s a long way down.

Ha ha, you say through your teeth, why don’t you take a long walk off a short pier?

That’s a good one, Jason says and without a second thought he reaches for your fingers, starting to peel them loose, and once you realize what he is doing you yank your hand back as if burned, nearly losing your grip and falling – and with a squeal of fear you drag yourself around the end of the fence and back to safety, falling off of it onto the gravel and holding your cramping hands to your chest.
