Who lives through a door like this?

Went to Haddon Hall today. It is described as 'The most perfect English house to survive from the Middle Ages'. Haddon Hall has stood on the site near Bakewell since Norman times and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
This door handle has certainly seen many openings and closings over the years.
