The Rock
Today was our Angel Island and Alcatraz tour.
Angel Island was beautiful and if we had stayed longer, we would have totally done a full day trip with hiking/biking there. But a short 2.25 hour trip was sufficient for now and the one hour tram tour of it was brilliant... Although it was freezing! That wind was really bracing! Glad we had jeans on and had our hoodies.
After grabbing some lunch on the island, we headed off to Alcatraz.
Alcatraz was brilliant. The audio tour was fantastic and the whole experience was awesome. It's so weird as Alcatraz as a concept was very much tied to cinema and TV for me and it was very odd trying to reconcile the fact that it was real and the audio tour was narrated by actual ex inmates and prison guards.
Returned to San Francisco at about 16.30. Walked to Fishermans Wharf, muchly enjoyed the Musee Mecanique. Went to Ghiradelli Square, had an awesome hot fudge sundae.
Then trekked up the very steep Hyde Street to get to Lombard Street, the world's crookedest street. Brilliant stuff.
Then wandered down to North Beach and had wonderful pasta at Sodinis and met a lovely old couple on their fifth date!
Then back to the apartment for a nice quiet evening before our early start for our Muir Woods tour tomorrow.
Jonathan managed to get very burnt today... We had sun block in our bag but for somewhat caught out by cloudy sun exposure... Doh!
