Dubrovnik from Mount Srd

This is one of the classic views of Dubrovnik taken from the Imperial Fort on Mount Srd high above the Old City and nowadays reached by a rebuilt cable car. The fort was built in the time of Napoleon and was used more recently in an attempt to defend the city during the Homeland war where it now houses a museum dedicated to that conflict with many harrowing photographs and newsreel taken at the time.

The views are stunning of the coastline and surrounding mountainous countryside - we were so glad we decided to make this our activity for the day - nice lunch in the restaurant as a bonus.

I had a wander while Mrs AMK read her kindle and saw some of the most enormous flying insects on giant thistle like plants as well as shiny green beetles , butterflies etc. - plenty spectacular blips could be had up there!
