Today we left Dubrovnik for a day trip by coach and ferry to the Island of Korcula where, it is claimed by the locals, Marco Polo was born ( and not Venice).

Our guide told us a lot about the interesting history of this island and there is a great deal of Venetian influence from the times when it was ruled by Venice.

I suspect this large canon may have been used in past maritime conflicts but today it is very much a focal point for many photographs.
