Wareham's North Walls in Summer
This photo, taken from the top of Wareham's Saxon North Walls, looks eastwards along the walls and the meadows below. Just to the left of the central (darker) tree can be seen the town's North Mill.
The river Frome runs eastwards, and splits into two main channels (see note below) shortly before it reaches North Mill. Only the northernmost channel is visible here, the southern one passes immediately to the left of North Mill; the two channels join again after a short distance, to flow under North Bridge and then onwards into Poole Harbour.
The scene has changed considerably since early February 2014.
Note: Apart from the two channels mentioned, there is also a millstream (invisible here) which was constructed to power the mill. However, this narrow stream is clearly visible in my February photo.
