Susan and Joyce
Our churches in Dunscore and Moniaive are twinned with a congregation in Lubuto, Zambia. Seven years ago, Luke (then aged 9) and I went to Lubuto as part of a group, to find out what it was like and to start the twinning process. It was my first visit to Africa and the first time Luke had been abroad. We stayed with a family for two enjoyable but exhausting weeks, touring the area, meeting people and shaking a million hands. We had to make speeches and join in with singing and dancing. It was an experience neither of us will ever forget.
For the past two weeks, three visitors from Lubuto have been seeing Scotland for the first time and no doubt our country is just as strange and wonderful to them as Zambia was to us. One of them was Susan, the mother of the family we had stayed with. This evening, she and Joyce came to dinner at our house and we looked at photos from 2007.
They fly home tomorrow. When we said goodbye seven years ago, I never thought we would meet again. But you just never know...
