torc and bowl
Today D and I visited the museum in Dumfries, where there is an exhibition about Lochar Moss, the great bog outside the town. Star exhibit is this Iron Age torc, found in the bowl by peat cutters in the 1840s. The torc and bowl are on permanent display in the British Museum, and have been loaned to Dumfries for the duration of the exhibition. As a condition of the loan, someone on the staff must always sit in view of the torc. Today's torc guardian (on the left) was occupying his time by making a rag rug.
