Grand Haven, Michigan
Michigan has some beautiful beaches along Lake Michigan. This is Grand Haven City Beach with Grand Haven Lighthouse in the background. Everyone is gearing up for the big 4th of July Holiday weekend, so the beaches are busy.
It's hard to grasp how large Lake Michigan is. It is the largest of the Great Lakes and is 307 miles long and 118 miles wide. It has 1640 miles of shoreline. It is large enough to have tides.
I spent an hour or so in Grand Haven before meeting the rest of the relatives for today's big family reunion event. We had an early dinner (all 25+ of us, including little kids) on the waterfront deck of the nearby Old Boys Brewhouse. Then the grandparents and little kids went home and the middle generation stayed for the rest of the evening, enjoying a few drinks while listening (and joining in!) to the live music under the stars. They kindly let me join them, although technically, I am the same generation as the grandparents! Age-wise I am right in between the two generations, so I join whatever group I think is having most fun!
