Arriving in Edinburgh

We made it. You'll have to take my word (because it's impossible to document) that the ride was incredible. So many views and byways and surprises. Number one surprise for today was that it wasn't as hard a slog as we had feared. We did have a long climb out of Innerleithen (and actually passed two other cyclists!), but then! Then we had an incredible downhill, cruising at 25 mph for a good couple miles. Then up, then more down, and down, and down, and a few ups, and then we were here.

If any of you would like to take this same trip, I am happy to advise. I won't list my woes here, but I would do it slightly differently if I were to do it again. More time, a few different places to stay, bike gloves. The basics. Paul would need a better bike seat. Wilson would have to stop injuring his legs. But overall, we are very pleased with what we have done and seen, and we are happy to be in beautiful Edinburgh this evening and all day tomorrow, departing Tuesday mid-morning.

Out our Premiere Inn 5th floor window we look directly across at the Edinburgh Castle with its backdrop of gray sky and dramatic clouds. We're having the same great weather we've had the whole trip with just a few short rainfalls to remind us of home. When we first rode into Edinburgh, through a park whose name I didn't notice, it started raining pretty hard. Everyone just moved under a tree. The rain stopped a few minutes later and everyone continued on their way. Who needs an umbrella when you have a tree?
