CannyScot's Day

View from the House of Dun

Bright but showery day. We went up to Montrose, had a look around the Harbour area and then the Beachfront before heading over to the National Trust property, the House of Dun.

The House is a Georgian building overlooking the Montrose Basin, designed and built by William Adam (father of Robert Adam) in 1730 for David Erskine, Lord Dun. It was inspired by the Château d’Issy near Paris. The photo shows the beautiful view over the Montrose Basin, a world renowned wild life area.

There is a small walled garden which has been largely restored to a late Victorian period and includes a range of plants typical of the 1880s. A wooded den, first planted in the 19th century, contains a plum-pudding rock garden, a selection of evergreen shrubs and woodland plants.

Afterwards we headed to the Brechin Castle Garden Centre and managed to dodge a huge downpour. The sun shone brightly afterwards and I was able to take a picture of the Lake and the incredible sky behind.

If you would like to see the actual House and some of the plants in the Garden and the Lake view see my Flikr set.

Enjoy the rest of Monday.
