Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

This middle of the week -- Wednesday -- here in camp is always "Avalon Day." Some of the campers would call it "hike day." There are several choices, but what is significant for the camp staff is that it is a non-program day.

This is our second year in a row of selecting the "stay in camp" option. Because of having Tristan with us, we know that staying will allow for lots of extended time in the play yard, which is a favorite place for Tristan. The swim area at the shoreline is also opened mid-morning, and Tristan is loving playing in the water; here on the lee side of the island the waves are mild.

So a group of campers left camp at 7:00 am to hike to the top of the ridge and then follow the island road into the community of Avalon.

Another much larger group left camp at 9:30 on the historic boat, the Blanche W, and so those of us who chose "stay in camp" as our option, settled into the peaceful quiet that was here in Gallagher's Cove.
