Loch Long

We descended from Tower Ridge on the Saturday via the awesome CMD Arete - then a long laborious slog over the screes back to the hut. On arrival it was like it had been bombed - the SMC maintenance & repair crew were in for the day - whilst there work is vital it did somewhat change our nice relaxed evening plan - but what a great friendly bunch of blokes (& lass) - they'd brought alot of their supplies in on the helicopter that ferried in the new gas cylinders, stove and other items - and they were happy to share their beef & coffee and sell us a bottle of wine (well this is still Scotland after all...joke!)
So whilst it was sociable it wasn't restful and it was four weary souls who got up the next day. The Ben had reverted to type and was shrouded in cloud - so with some of us having a ten hour drive ahead we decided to pack up, walk out and do something on the route South - hopefully under friendlier skies.
Glen Coe was gloomy (& we were still tired at that point) - so a quick rethink and we headed to the Arrochar Hills - three of the group had never climbed the Cobbler - so its easy access made it an attractive proposition.
Parking at Loch Long the views were spectacular - and today's Blip was achieved. It's a fascinating place to visit - until the 1980's it was a submarine and torpedo testing facility - diving is still banned - but its also slowly being developed - the Forrestry Commission campsite is fantastic - at the right time of year you can even catch your own tea for the on site BBQ's.
