Another fave
I had little time to go blip hunting today, and added to this is was very windy, which is a real bane for macro photographers.
In the end I settled for a patch of umbelliferous plants growing beside the road in Barnes Green. There were several nectaring beetles in this patch, and if I looked hard several flies including this hover fly Myathropa florea.
I really like this common hover, as it is such a burst of stripy colour... they have attitude too!
Later when I came home I checked out my pupae, and decided to open the cocoons of my last 3 unhatched emperor moths. I was really surprised to find the pupae inside still well alive and moving... maybe they are going to wait 2 years to hatch, I am not too sure.
