Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa
Do not be fooled by the picture- the sun did not make an appearance today. I actually didn't take any pictures today. But here's the campus just as I saw it except the sky was gray. It's beautiful though! Even in the terrible weather.
I met Anita Albert, the woman who deals with international students, then got my new student ID. There was an orientation for all students living in the accommodation housing followed by an orientation for all international students. This included a Maori man from a local tribe who sort of welcomed/blessed us. That was really cool, he spoke in Maori and preformed a welcome song with some other people. I'm excited to go to Rotorua.
There were students from all over the world, mainly Asia. I couldn't believe there were only 4 other Americans in addition to me and Blythe. The other 4 kids were from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Connecticut and Alaska. Eddy said his campus has like 25 Americans. Very peculiar. The Americans were cool though. The Connecticut girl goes to Adelphi and knew some of my guy friends on the lax team (haha).
Free food after all the business, what stuck out to me the most were the spinach and feta quiches. Yum. New Zealand is famous for meat pies and I have yet to try one. Made it home around 7 and managed to keep myself up until 9-9:30 in hopes that I wouldn't wake up at an absurd time in the middle of the night. (Slept till around 6 am).
