Mill on the Alne

About the Day
Into work this morning prior to signing out for two weeks. It was a great feeling to have assistance ready and willingly available, when I had wrongly imagined I would be shown sour faces.

In the afternoon I drove over to Great Alne, hoping to find a tree by the river I had photographed with my long neglected MPP Microcord TLR. That was probably 10 years ago. I think I found the tree but getting to the place where I stood to take the pickie was impossible. Comparing today's visit with what I remember of last time, the area seems overgrown and neglected. I waded chin high through stingers and brambles a lot of the time.

About the Blip
Early on in the tree search I walked down Mill Lane and was surprised to find I was at liberty to wander through the Mill House Grounds. This shot is from an ornate bridge crossing the mill race, seen entering the mill. I have been unable to discover much about the Mill House. Nikolaus Pevsner doesn't mention it in his entry for Great Alne. There was a mill here in Doomsday when it was worth 5s, but I am confident it didn't look like this. All I can say is that the house has been split to create modern luxury apartments. So you're looking at quite a few bobs worth now.
