Stratford upon Avon Boat Club Fun Regatta

Today I was 'Stroke' for 'Much Ado About Rowing', with Lisa, Colin and Jessica making up the remainder of the crew. We had done 3 hours of training as pure rookies. Our first race was scheduled for 10:40 against a crew dressed as ABBA and called 'Knowing Me Knowing Crew'. I reckon they've got a fighting chance of winning the best dressed prize. Our cox was a shy lad of say 14. We lost in a time of 1:53 and except for a decent middle section, we were all over the place.

Next up, around 12:30ish, we had an experienced cox who yelled out encouragement plus a stroke beat. I thought we rowed much better and it felt like we controlled that boat with aplomb. Even though we lost again. Worse, in a time of 1:54. Which I'm struggling with. Heyho.

Best bit for me was up at race start end, waiting for the race ahead of us to get underway. Lovely to be low in the water, plip plopping about, watching the ducks, the dragonflies and the little fishes doing what they do.

A hot sunny morning, and it was great that Cath and the lads could make it in time for race No2.
