Ha Long Bay
No-frills day trip to Ha Long Bay, which was still a better option than the first place we were going to book, where a bloke in the office was beating a young girl.
Much reflection on the state of tourism as we were shuffled through 'Heaven Cave' like cattle, with the guide doing the usual attempts of pointing out that every rock formation looks remarkably like an elephant's face or Ho Chi Minh sitting on the toilet (note: two blocks of rock next to each other do not look like cocks fighting or people hugging).
Much reflection also needed on how much Thai tourists like to pose for photos. Every 10 metres. At the expense of appreciating the stunning scenery.
Beautiful coastal landscapes. Good reminder of what this natural world thing is all about. Quick chicken pho stop when we got off the bus late. A much-needed day mostly away from an internet connection.
