Something slightly different.....
Today was actually very different! No trip to Stratford upon Avon as Frank and Ann had been invited to a wedding reception in the evening and so had I. At least we'd know each other! We'd been invited by John and Jennie who I meet about once a month (ish) for Sunday dinner at the Dog and Doublet. As most of you already know, Frank was my immediate boss/friend/mentor/teacher and John was the manager of both of us. Without Frank and John, I seriously doubt I'd have stayed at Solihull Council as long as I have. How anyone puts up with me is a miracle. John used to give me careers advice when I was just 16 and a data control trainee!
Anyway both Frank and John are long retired now but I'm happy to say that we still keep in touch and are all friends. It was John and Jennie's eldest son Simon who was getting married to Caroline (aka Caz). I didn't even know Simon and Caz! Neither did Frank and Ann.
During the day, I went to the newish Morrisons supermarket up the road from me for fun. Yeah I know. You don't need to say anything! I was excited by the travelator that takes you up into the store. I went up and down several times with an empty trolley for fun! All I bought was an ornamental hedgehog and I had a jacket spud in the cafeteria.
The reception was in a farmer's field in the middle of nowhere. A grand marquee was erected. There was a hog and beef roast and an ice cream tent for the vegetarians although some cheese and bread appeared later. A huge bonfire was lit during the evening and also there was a big live band - very Commitments style - followed by a DJ who in fairness played cracking music and hardly anything modern. The bride was so beautiful, looking like an old fashioned movie star and was so tall and elegant. It was a very posh affair to be honest and I felt incredibly dowdy but as you all know, I don't generally do parties or meetings of any description and I was pleased I'd gone.
My picture is of John (on the left) and Frank. Sorry, the picture isn't great. I struggled with the light and seldom do people pictures. I don't even have face recognition on as it doesn't work for my usual birds and hedgehogs! I was delighted to get a picture of them together though. John NEVER normally allows pictures of himself to be taken but the long day and the odd tipple had made him a bit more cooperative!
Track? This was the only modern one I heard and was also the one the bride and groom had as their first dance - One Day Like This
