Diary of an Edinburgher

Progress...

The night time rain had dried up by this morning to give us another glorious day. I do believe that’s three days in a row, so it can officially be called a half decent summer.

We decided to continue with Archie’s car/pub training and headed for The Waterside Inn at Haddington, about 40 minutes away. Just long enough for the wee miserable chap in the back.

He’s still very unwilling to get in the car, and indeed to put on his harness - but I put his blanket on the back seat along with his favourite toy, and clipped him into his new seat belt. He lay down. He was fine! He didn’t even lift his head when we stopped at traffic lights.

We walked along the river, which has a huge grassy area. He was off the lead and was whizzing about, ears flapping, happy as Larry. He got rather near the edge of the river sometimes, but JR assured me that if he fell in, she'd be right in to save him.

There was no rubbish around, which was great, but he had lots of twigs to choose from. He tended to run quite far ahead and not look back, which is not what I want him to be doing, so every now and again, we’d stop and turn and walk the other way. He’d eventually spot us and come running. We did this lots of times.

There were other dogs, and toddlers, and once he’d had a sniff (of the dogs) he’d come away quite happily. I had my water pistol at the ready at all times.

We had langoustines and lovely chips and Camden Hells lager while sitting out beside the river. It was a hot as anything - we could have been on the Costa del somewhere! The dark clouds looming in the photo arrived later but amounted to nothing.

After lunch we had another off the lead walk and he had such fun - his little ears flapping as he ran round and round non stop, with only the occasional pause in shady grass for us to catch up.

He slept all the way home! I think we may have cracked the travel sickness thing, but I won’t speak too soon...
