In the 2nd city of the Empire, a hive of industry
I am very happy to have had the chance today, during the lunchbreak for the Scottish Green Infrastructure Group meeting in Glasgow City Council in John Street, to visit a beautiful, hidden green corner of the Dear Green Place that is Glasgow, namely the Greyfriars Garden off George Street. A community garden chockablock with little plots full of veg and flowers, the plotholders allowed our little group in with our sandwiches, to enjoy the beautiful private space they have created amidst Strathclyde University's shining towers and throbbing construction sites. As well as bursting with veg and human contentment, it was also busy with insects, including this garden bumblebee, Bombus hortorum, with its very long tongue drinking deep of Nasturtium nectar! A haven of habitat, green-ness and calm in a busy city.
