The Ant People are taking to the air

During a 30 minute walk in Stirling earlier this evening, I saw six ant nests like this one, swarming with flying ants . A sultry evening after an overcast but hot day seems to have brought them all out a-wing. I expect the swifts and swallows, and even the gulls to be busy later, hawking in the air for an ant dinner. I will check if the Society of Biology is running its citizen science recording scheme for flying ant records again this year and, if so, I will submit my record.
