City Hall, Oslo!
We normally dock in port very early, about 5-6am, but today it was about 10am before we passed along the interesting 60 mile Oslo fiord. We had a lunchtime trip arranged so had an early cup of coffee in the cabin and then breakfast up on deck 18, after we had docked.
Our trip was a city walking tour and the floor shown in the blip is in the City Hall. A relatively new building, compared to all of the old palaces and places that we have seen on the trip. It was started in the 1930’s and then completed in the early 1950’s after WW11.
The walls are covered in murals which document the history of the country, in a very modern way. This main hall is where the Nobel Peace Prize is announced. The stone, of different colours, is all sourced from Norway and is laid in a beautiful design.
We were docked next to the Akershus Fortress, which has in its grounds the Norway’s Resistance Museum. It was well worth the visit, as it provides a comprehensive history of the times and their activities. It links up with the museums that we saw in Shetland last year and the history of the “Shetland Bus”.
I have been looking for some braid / ribbon for a something that I am working on and didn’t have success until today!! I also looked for some “fat quarters” to make an item demonstrated by one of the Australian ladies at the “crafters” meet-up that we had a couple of days ago. The “fat quarters” here are not square, but are more like narrow oblongs!! Not suitable for what I want to do, so I will buy them at home.
