What's In A Street Name 9 - Punch Copse Road

As the forecast didn't look too good, we went to Crawley again as there is cover if it rained - which it didn't! It was still very humid, but there was some improvement during the day. There were thunderstorms in the night and one big bang made me jump as it was overhead.

I went off for a rather sweaty walk through part of the neighbourhoods of Three Bridges and into Northgate on the search for new road nameplates. This one is in Three Bridges and is named after a wood that was formerly on the site. There are a good number of roads in Crawley that are named after features that either don't exist at all now or that do that were part of the countryside that the New Town was built on. I saw a line of hedge off Northgate Avenue that definately had the appearance of an old field hedgerow. There are many little things awaiting discovery in Crawley that are all part of the town's rich past.
