"...i am with my people"
And one of us heard a Filipina say "I am with my people" in her most British accent during the Barrio Fiesta in London today. Amid the forecast of thunderstorm and high probability of torrential rain, the event was given it's most Filipino weather (around 28C!!!!). It was sweltering hot!
I got on the London Waterloo train heading for Hampton Court at around 1036am. As soon as i stepped inside the train coach, I was transported to the Philippines as i heard the usual buzz of Pinoys talking about anything and everything about their lives in the UK and of their relatives/friends in the Philippines. I was also greeted by very friendly smiles. I asked them if they were heading to the Barrio Fiesta and one of them said "Ay naku hindi ka mawawala, madami tayo!" (You wont get lost, a lot of us are heading there) I like how they immediately assured that i will not be lost (although I know that i wont). I think i have never been on a train coach in the UK that was so clangorous than the one i was in today. Leave it to Filipinos and they will definitely deliver the job! I think it is safe to say that that trip had at least 80% Filipino's on board :)
There were arrays of Filipino dishes in the venue! If only i have the stomach of a cattle, then i would probably have ordered all! I opted to order pork bbq, bopis and bicol express with rice. That meal deal costed me 5gbp plus another quid for a can of regular coke! They were also selling hotdog bbq (yes the red one, not the flesh colored ones sold here in the UK) but i didn't get one as it wasn't Purefoods LOL!
