Åland Islands

We had to get up very early this morning as the ferry left Stockholm at 7.10. After a few hours on the boat going through the fabulous waters of the Archipelago, we arrived at the capital of the Åland Islands, Mariehamn. It's hot and sunny here but as we only have 24 hours here we have been on a wander around.most of the town is relatively new but we found a sort of old collection of buildings where this fine ship was coming in to berth.

The Åland Islands are now designated as Finnish although they have many features of devolved government. The currency is the Euro, but the language is Swedish. Interesting.
