Five Sisters Bing, West Calder

A special Summer Spokes Ride headed first out to Muiravonside Country Park, then further west to Avonbridge. Then we headed south toward West Calder, passing the Five Sisters Bing. The bings are remnants of West Lothian's Shale-Oil Industry, and now form an Industrial Heritage Site. Remarkably, shale-oil was still being extracted from here as recent as 1962.
