a return

after days of overcast skies, the sun finally came out this morning. i headed down to the town dock for a blip. when i got there, the water was sparkling. empty lobster barrels returning from market were being loaded onto a barge. i got some nice photos. i was packing up my camera when i heard the diesel chug of an incoming lobsterboat.. i saw the familiar light blue hull of the "rise and shine", captained by my brother. he had been on the water since four. he was ashore to off-load some crates filled with lobsters and to pick up a large holding box before heading out again. my brother was having a good day. i took more photos of his boat, his two stern men, harold and james, his catch. in the end, i chose this one. it shows my brother's kindness and contentment. his catch was plentiful. he is grateful for his life on the water. before we parted, i gave him a hug. he protested, said he smelled like bait. i didn't care. i got back in my car, started downloading my photos and realized that yes indeed, i now smelled like bait. it's okay. i love my brother. it will be a good day for me as well..
