Hygga Hill
Yesterday I was tasked with finding a walk in one of our walks books, to take the sons dogs on. The one I chose was 'Trellech and Hygga', page 86 of Ben Giles excellent book 'Wye Valley - 40 Hill and Riverside Walks'.
We have a couple of walks we do in Trellech, a village that can trace it's history back to ancient times, and can do them blinfolded. The walk I chose was the first part of one of the other walks we do, backwards. It was strange doing it backwards - you see things differently.
The dogs ran about like demented lunatics, dashing through the woods and into any stream they could. This was good as it was hot and it cooled them down.
We then crossed the B4293 into the little lovely hamlet of Hygga. The few buildings there date back to the 16th century and the land was once worked by the monks of Tintern Abbey, being the site of a former manor house.
The hamlet is overlooked by Hygga Hill, the site of an Iron Age hillfort. The blip photo shows the tree line leading to the top.
We're off out with friends tonight to a pub where we find they do great sensibly priced grub. After two 'dry' days I'm really looking forward to a chilled beer - hopefully a pear cider.
Enjoy the rest of the lovely evening.
