Fragile Peace

Easily broken and as Humpty Dumpty discovered, not so easy to put back together again.

Diana met with the consultant who will do Mags' heart valve replacement last night. They are planning to do the operation later next week which is much earlier than anticipated but shows how serious her condition is. I visited her in hospital yesterday and she was so much better than she was on Monday. A remarkable recovery really, and with a new valve in place, who knows, she might join me in the half marathon in October.

Of course, this silver lining has a cloud - we are going to have to cancel our holiday. It's absolutely the right thing for us to do but I feel sorry for Mick and Coral who we were going away with. Assuming they will go ahead, we now have to change the ferry booking into their name, they have to drive, they have to get European breakdown cover, and worst of all, try to enjoy themselves without me. The first 3 are doable, but the last one ?

Heart surgeons. Remarkable people given what they are able to do, but that doesn't stop them being t***s. This one said to Diana that 'he was happy to accept her mother as one of his patients'. Like he had a choice - it's his bloody job. It's like supermarket check out girls picking and choosing who they want to serve.
