A little bit of bread and no cheese

It could be describing our ongoing - although slightly fading - diet but in fact is the description, as popularised by Enid Blyton, of the song of this bird, the Yellowhammer.
In fact it is rarer around us here than its close relation the Cirl Bunting, a bird that featured in my blip on the 18th of December. This Yellowhammer clearly wanted to feed young but wouldn't go near the nest whilst we stayed where we were.
