Glasgow en fete

Glasgow is partying today and I had to buy a ball of navy blue acrylic to finish a progect. I just had to go into town.

Its hot, its the weekend, its the merchant city festival and the commonwealth games are in town. A perfect storm and i couldn't not feel what all that was like! It was fabulious. The festival has been going for a few years and is great fun, it has a retro theme again this year. Lots of girls with "victory roll does" and vintage stalls. Loads of food and music. I had a cool beer and a wonder round, then i headed to George Square where people were sitting on the grass and generally having fun while queuing for tickets. It was all very good natured.

I headed up along buchanan st, I had wool to buy after-all when i came across this scene. It just sums up Glasgow's more frivolous side.

A former tobacco lords house, a sort of smallish stately home, has been turned into The Gallery of Modern Art (well worth a visit if you are in town) The statue of the duke of wellington on Copenhagen which stand in front of the G.O.M.A. always has a traffic cone on noesies head, its become an emblem of the city.

This chap is some sort of living statue with the cone and a wee horse on a plinth. He was on a cigarette brake when the two cops stopped to have a chat. He doesn't seem to be in any trouble, they just seem to be discussing the terms of his performance. I think the wee horse is hilarious.

glasgow, no mean city, who are we kidding.
