How does it work?

No, really, I've done the Aerodynamics courses and the Principles of Flight courses and all that jazz - and I don't believe them.

How can a thing the size of a 737 - never mind something like the Airbus A380 which is HUGE - manage to stay in the air?

We completely take it for granted now and it is so much part of our modern world that we don't give it a second thought, but really - there is dark magic at work here. :-)

I STILL get a kick out of watching planes fly overhead to land - you're looking at a big metal tube full of people hanging on two thin thin slivers of metal sheeting and struts, being pushed through the air by two engines which are just essentially continual controlled explosions.

Look at it - in that little black shape are several hundred people, on their way to who knows where from who knows what... lots of lives all brought together and directed for that brief time into one small section of space.

Bizarre - and we complain when it doesn't go according to plan, or if they divert, or if they go u/s with a tech problem!
