Harebells and other flowers, in the narrow strip of sand and gravel that forms the barrier between the Moray Firth (sea), and the lagoon that once was the McDermott fabrication yard, by Ardersier. Large oil rigs were assembled in that bit of water. And that large building is very much smaller than the huge monster of a building, that was taken down and shipped off to Asia, a few years ago. Lots of demolition going on, and decontamination of the site. Hence the distant spoil heaps. A developer has plans for loads of posh houses, a marina, and more here... perhaps.
Kayaked from Chanonry Point, on the Black Isle, around to here today. On the way out, the red warning flags were flying by Fort George, and the periodic cracks of gunfire warned not to go near the land. Stayed well over to the middle of the channel, further than a braver(?), or uninformed, yacht owner, that sailed by. Also kept clear of the spit of sand near the yard, where many common seals lie snoozing, when the tides out. The Bottlenose Dolphins came and kept me company for a short while on the way there.
A pleasant day. Well tired after it though.
