Back Home
It was a surprise to me how much I LOVED being away from any internet for even 11 days - the world just went on - (that Malaysian plane went down 2 hours before we left so we were curious of course..) I have a sketchbook almost full, have read several books and many parts of the excellent naturalist library on the sailboat and learned many wonderful things from both the crew (fabulous experienced skipper, 1st mate, cook and naturalist) and the other passengers on our SE Alaska Cruise on the 67 ft “Island Odessey “ (2 couples from the UK, 2 from Alberta, Canada, one from Kansas and us from the PNW!) I want to record the journal of the trip in order so it will take a few days to sort the photos - but if you are interested you will see humpback whales bubble netting and breaching, brown and black bears catching salmon so thick you could walk on them across the river, more eagles than I’ve ever seen in one view, otters, seals, lots of birds, glaciers calving and harbor seals on ice chunks and miles and miles of beautiful rocks, trees, and water…… for starters. It was so fine!!!!!
This is the end of a long but beautiful day, flying from Prince Rupert to Vancouver and then a wait to catch the floatplane from Vancouver to Montague Harbor on Galiano. I got to sit in the front seat of the newish beaver (haven’t flown in one for many years) so could not resist this rare view ( for me) of our place on the island (our dock is in the middle, the cabin is hidden by trees Saltspring Island on the top). Our friends who stayed here for 2 weeks while we were gone thoughtfully had dinner for us so now it’s past time to crawl into my own bed ASAP :-) They have decided they are NOT island people, like we are. We are happy to be back here.
I just don’t know how to begin getting back in the blip groove - but will slowly try to see what you are up to! :-) ……tomorrow……….. thank you for the comments I just tonight picked up from the 16th and before...
