Towards the Kaikoras.

This is taken from between Okains Bay and Little Akaroa, and looks to the snowy Kaikora Mountains. I like the coloured NW arch clouds framing the photo.
Visited the Okains Bay museum today and would really recommend it. A huge number of Maori and European artefacts. For example about a dozen wakas including two that are regularly used and need twenty men each to paddle. Was told Okains Bay has about a hundred and fifty permanent residents, and gets hundreds of visitors in the summer. Eg The camping ground is packed full with about 600. We hardly saw anyone.
Interesting the only warfare here was between Maori and Maori, and not between Maori and colonisers. The addition of potato to their diet made a huge difference to their life span and the population ( as it was easy to grow and stored well especially for winter use).
