Giant’s Causeway
Today’s the day ................ for a giant step
I’ve seen today something that I’ve wanted to see for a very long time.
The Giant’s Causeway is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a geological wonder. It is the result of the cooling and shrinking of successive lava flows during a period of intense volcanic activity some 60 million years ago - to produce perfectly-formed, interlocking basalt columns.
Of course, there are many myths and legends that have arisen to explain its origins – that it was carved from the coast by the mighty giant, Finn McCool. It is visited by over a million people every year and so you have to share it with lots of others. But despite all the distractions, it is still an amazing sight to see.
Especially for a geologist, like me ..................
