Katharine of Aragon

Not many people know that Henry VIII 's first wife is buried in Peterborough Cathedral. She was an amazing woman, much abused and undervalued by Henry as she did not give him a son and he wanted to to marry Anne Boleyn. Katharine was buried not as Henry's wife but as the widow of his brother Arthur. Having kept her imprisioned in Buckden and Kimbolton Henry then denied her a London funeral saying it would be too expensive but this was not entirely true...he was concerned that Londoners still loved her and would turn up in great crowds to say goodbye. This would reflect badly on him.

We have wanted to visit her tomb for a while and finally made it today. Our visit to the tomb was interrupted by a wedding. We had to wait an hour until the service was over. But well worth the trip.
