Every Picture Tells .....

From King's Cross to King Cross

Back in Halifax.

Punctures repaired, fences painted.

On my way to Screwfix I passed Wainhouse Tower at King Cross, Halifax. It was commissioned as a chimney with architectural merit to disperse smoke from dye works lower down the hill owned by John Edward Wainhouse.

Unfortunately, he sold the dye works before the chimney was completed and as the buyer had no desire to take over the half-built structure he was left with it on his hands. His response to this was to have the chimney finished off as a tower.

The whole took four years to build, 1871-75.
