Work stuff... of a most frustrating and wasteful variety.
"Were going to be doing a new unit," he'd said.
So I establish some details: when; how many groups; number of Students; and track down the paperwork for what's to be taught - the descriptor. Lots of practical work. Make a list of the required materials per Student. Check the stock. Order lots of bits - he authorises that Arrange for some plywood boards to be cut-up for fixing bits on. Even very considerately varnished all said boards, a couple of coats. Near enough removes the splinter risk, and keeps them looking good for multiple uses/years. Sort out the deliveries, and make up kits. Make up some smaller boards - took a while - to fix on the plywood ones. Made a load of brackets to hold rotary switches. Stripped older bits-n-pieces. Cut up lengths of cables. And much more. Stored all the stuff away in preparation for when the groups started on it.
It never happened. Such is the busy and variable nature of my job, that I completely forgot about it. Three years later, and I come across this lot today. Unused. I ask if that unit will ever be done, "No. Not now."
What a waste. Time, money, effort. More time spent stripping things down. Will recycle as much as possible - that's part of the job - and try to use everything else elsewhere.
As I said, frustrating. With a capital F! C'est la vie...
