Splitty

This bridal car, waiting for the bride, who hopefully will be suitably late is a 1960 Volkswagen camper with a split windscreen.

In the background you can see 1973 Beetle which will take her retinue to the venue.

The Volkswagen Type 1 known officially (depending on body type) as the Transporter, Kombi or Microbus, or, informally, as the Bus (US) or Camper (UK), is a panel van introduced in 1950 by the German automaker Volkswagen as its second car model. Following - and initially deriving from Volkswagen's first model, the Type 1 (Beetle) - it was given the factory designation Type 2.

The first generation of the Volkswagen Type 2 with the split windshield, informally called the Microbus, Split screen, or Splittie among modern fans, was produced from 8 March 1950 through the end of the 1967 model year.

Why I like this car is that when I got married, my best man, who worked for Volkswagen SA, arranged a brand new (at the time) Type 2 to transport the Happy Couple to the reception.

We stuck our heads through the open sunroof and waved to the adoring crowds.
