Another Poetry Book Launch
This afternoon, S attended the launch of yet another poetry book. The fourth (counting her own) in the last couple of weeks. I had some things I needed to do, including have a run, so did not accompany her.
This is where the launch was held. In our local library, where the grand boys borrow books. The library was closed to the public for the launch this afternoon, and apparently the library was very supportive; just as the Central Library had been Friday a week ago when it hosted the launch of a book co-edited by one of S' mentors.
I've been meaning to post a photo of this grand building for a while, and today was the perfect opportunity. Towards the end of my run I came past the library and got this photo. The blue sky was in fact an anomaly for today. Heavy clouds and much rain all morning and most of the afternoon.
I looked for a bit of info about the library b building. It was purpose built 90 years ago, and has been in continuous use ever since as a library serving the local Grey Lynn community. Located near the Grey Lynn shopping village at 474 Great North Road, the Neo-Georgian building was designed by architect William Gummer. It was opened in December 1924 by the then Mayor Sir James Gunson. It continues to be used as a public library and community hall today. The inside now includes murals painted by artist Murray Grimsdale.
Another photo taken on Great North Road.
