Elite Orienteering
Today was the first day of the O-Ringen, the largest orienteering competition in the world. It is always held in week 30 and this year was in Skåne near Kristianstad. It was hot and sunny and I was grateful for all the water points in the terrain. The orienteering was quite easy and my course was definitely for runners rather than navigators. The men and women elites started later in Tivoli park in Kristianstad with a sprint race, There were loads of spectators and it must have been hard to maintain concentration. The last few controls were in the trees so taking photographs was hard. I was pleased with this blip of Gustav Bergman, one of Sweden's top orienteers as he ran to the finish. It gives a sense of just how fast a top orienteer runs.
