Tayport West Lighthouse
Bright sunny day, with a nice breeze.
Taking advantage of the lovely day we went out in the morning to Cairnie's Fruit Farm in Fife to get some fruit for Eleanor to make jam and also to have lunch. Afterwards we went on what turned out as an adventure. I wanted to get close to the Tayport Lighthouse, which we can see clearly from the other side of the Tay. We tried several little roads and then finally found a very steep Public Path. This still didn't get us on the beach but we met this really friendly man who lived in the old Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage. The Lighthouse was on his land but it was operated by the Forth Ports Authority. He pointed us to the path which led on to the beach and I was able to get the photo I was looking for.
The Light was built in 1823 by the grandfather of Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Stevenson, who also built the Bass Rock Lighthouse. It was heightened to 79 feet later in the 19th Century and a balcony was added.
I took a few photos which shows the Light in the garden of the Cottage owner and also looking like it 'grows' out of the Cottage. If you want to see them, head over to my Flikr set.
Enjoy the weather if it is good your way too.
