Ok, so not that kind of Tyger! ...an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papillio [Pterourus] glaucus) this is. This species is the most widely distributed tiger swallowtail, it ranges from Central Alaska and Canada to the Atlantic Ocean and southeast of the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of Mexico. This one is a male. The black female form has evolved to mimic the nasty tasting Pipevine Swallowtail and interestingly; it's numbers in the population indicate the abundance of the species it mimics. Here is my blip a couple of weeks back of a PIPEVINE SWALLOWTAIL.
